68 S3,/ SS (Super Safety) has recently
been rejoined to it’s original matching number, blasted,
redone Rolling, Non Rusty frame, suspension. Redone in
proper 2 part Red Oxide Epoxy prime. Frame off. Body
underside around and over frame (like in tunnel area and
around rear end for example), cleaned and repainted black,
so the rest of underside and wheel well areas can be
stripped, detailed and repainted without disturbing finished
frame or suspension. All detailed, sandblasted reconditioned
frame and suspension with mostly grade 8 bolts. Car has
repainted, detailed suspension,Halfshafts etc., Rotoflex
Spint type halfshaft doughnuts, New tires, new exhaust.
Also,Reconditioned(in silver 2 part) knockoff steel wheels.
Front end rebuilt and reconditioned with rotors, new or
resurfaced, new wheel bearings and rebuilt complete
hydraulics, brakes, master(Dual Master) slave,etc.
The car has just had body work finished, and has been
completely repainted (Biginning Aug 06) in a downdraft Booth
in British Racing Green. It is in the process of being
reassembled now.
A very low milage (possibly 6000 mi
original) L-block standard bore Stromberg motor had been
balanced detailed, painted in proper Ford grey. Rebuilt and
the detailed repainted driveline in the car running with new
exhaust and spin on filter, reconditioned water pump
reconditioned driveshaft. Runs good with great oil pressure,
etc., and about an hour or so run time. Electric Fuel pump,
new solenoids coil, new generator and regulator, etc.
Car Still needs a lot, Dash( mostly done, needs stain and
clear) rugs, etc., but is a ground up restoration in
progress, now possibly 80% done and what has been done, will
not need to be taken out or disassembled to finish the car,
you can move forward from here.
Car has New top, not installed, new dash, almost done now,
needs stain and clearcoat. Seats need some restitching and
work, but original basketweave inserts seem o.k. The car can
drive now, around the yard, on/off trailers in garage etc,up
the road, but would be difficult to drive around the block
with everything disassembled for paint, hinges off, lights
off, windshield out etc.alot of parts loose. Car has not yet
been road tested. Engine very responsive and seems qiute
gutsy, last time I moved it around.Throaty, very healthy
exhaust sound.
Assembly now started to the painted car as you can see from
the more recent painted pictures, some emblems on, the trunk
is hinged on and tail lights in, but they are not wired and
there us still more to bolt together before the car becomes
drivable down the road, at this point would have to be
trailered.
The car is a Rare SS, “ Super Safety” model, only a few
hundred made Even has it’s own SS side badges for it’s
factory designation. Is a great candidate for a ground up,
which at present is well under way. Easy finish.
